
The Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 is a legal act and law that aims to ensure that the employer and employees do everything in their power to create a healthy and safe working environment for all. It also ensures that the CEO, management and supervisors, OHS representatives and other employees understand their responsibilities in terms of OHS in the workplace. Should anyone be found not to be complying with the OHS Act and its requirements, then they may be liable to a fine or imprisonment, or both in severe non-compliance cases. It is a necessity to train staff in understanding this important Act and piece of legislation.

Certification and validity
An Occupational Health and Safety Act certificate is issued once a learner has completed the full day course and has been found competent, the certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue.
