Course Description
Ergonomics is the scientific study of the interaction between humans and elements
of a work system with the aim of making work as comfortable, safe, and efficient as
possible. Poorly designed work systems can result in a range of injuries and
conditions that adversely affect employees’ health and decrease overall productivity.
The Department of Employment and Labour is now actively enforcing the
Ergonomics Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 by
assessing businesses’ compliance status during inspections. According to the
Ergonomics Regulations, all employers in South Africa are legally required to
implement an ergonomics programme that includes the following:
- Information, instruction, and training on ergonomic risks and controls in the
workplace for all employees - Ergonomic risk assessments conducted by a competent person
The implementation of control measures to prevent exposure to ergonomic
risks - The implementation of medical surveillance where necessary
This 2.5-hour online Ergonomics in the Workplace workshop provides ergonomics training for employees in both office and industrial environments, including desk- based ergonomics, push-and-pull forces, work-related-upper-limb-disorders, and manual material handling.
