The OHS Act’s intention is to create a larger OHS team structure that assists management in implementing compliance and achieving their OHS objectives. Together the health and safety team strives to maintain a high standard of OHS act compliance and effectiveness across the entire organisation, structure, and all departments. The approach is, the more people and employees understanding and implementing health and safety together within the workplace, is the better.
The representatives also assist with OHS-related inspections, risk assessments, incident and accident investigations and form part of the OHS committee, which feeds back to senior and top management and all the employees.

- Sections of the OHS act pertaining to the representative, their functions, and the quarterly health and safety committee meetings, which all members must attend
- The duties and functions such as conducting quarterly workplace inspection and other functions of the representative and their appointment letters
- Introduction to incident investigations and hazard identification risk assessments, which will be part of the representatives’ important functions upon returning back to the workplace
- A practical component allows the learner to conduct a walkabout with a check sheet in a controlled environment and assess the workplace for any health and safety related concerns or non-conformances, to be discussed at the next health and safety committee meeting
