OHS Equipment Assessment

We advise on and supply health and safety and emergency preparedness equipment.

Ensure your workplace has the right equipment to meet legal requirements and respond effectively in an emergency.

Having trained personnel is only one part of creating a healthy, safe, prepared, and compliant workplace. Your organisation must also have the correct health and safety and emergency preparedness equipment to use to protect employees, respond effectively during emergencies, and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable SANS standards, National Building Regulations, and municipal by-laws.

Absolute Health Services conducts professional OHS Equipment Assessments to identify gaps in your workplace’s emergency preparedness equipment and provide practical recommendations to supply the missing elements to help you achieve compliance.

What is an OHS Equipment Assessment?

An OHS Equipment Assessment is an on-site evaluation of your entire workplace to determine whether you have the legally required health and safety and emergency preparedness equipment appropriate for your work environment.

One of our experienced OHS practitioners will inspect your premises and assess your emergency equipment requirements against applicable legislation. The assessment identifies missing or inadequate equipment and provides clear recommendations to help your organisation achieve preparedness and compliance.

What's included?

During the assessment, we evaluate whether your workplace has the appropriate emergency preparedness and health and safety equipment, including:

  • First aid regulation-approved boxes
  • Types and number of fire extinguishers required
  • Other firefighting equipment such as fire blankets
  • Evacuation floor plans
  • Emergency and directional signage
  • OHS Act posters
  • Other workplace emergency preparedness equipment recommended for your environment, e.g. evacuation chairs and automated external defibrillators

Following the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed list of the equipment required to improve your compliance, together with a quotation should you wish Absolute Health Services to supply the outstanding items.

Why is an OHS Equipment Assessment important?

The correct emergency equipment can make all the difference during a workplace emergency. Just as importantly, insufficient or non-compliant equipment can expose your organisation to unnecessary legal, operational, and financial risk.

An OHS Equipment Assessment helps your organisation to:

  • Ensure employees/the health and safety team has access to the equipment they need during an emergency
  • Identify gaps in emergency preparedness equipment
  • Improve workplace emergency preparedness
  • Support a safer working environment
  • Give employees and visitors peace of mind that the workplace is well prepared
  • Prepare for Department of Employment and Labour inspections
  • Meet applicable legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Prevent insurance claim repudiation due to insufficient equipment supply
  • Assist in reducing insurance premiums due to a well-prepared environment

Whether it’s a first aid box, firefighting equipment, evacuation signage, or evacuation floor plans, every item plays an important role in protecting people and supporting compliance.

How does an OHS Equipment Assessment differ from an OHS Compliance Assessment?

An OHS Equipment Assessment is not the same as an OHS Compliance Assessment.

While an OHS Compliance Assessment evaluates your overall occupational health and safety management system, documentation, training, structures, and compliance status, an OHS Equipment Assessment focuses specifically on the emergency preparedness and health and safety equipment required within your workplace.

Many organisations choose to combine both services to gain a complete understanding of their overall compliance status.
