First Aid NQF Level 1 Course

The Occupational Health and Safety act requires adequate first aid training to be provided in all workplaces because first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a critical life-saving skill. Attending this first aid NQF Level 1 course will give you high quality, practical, hands-on exposure in learning the basic skills of first aid. Basic Emergency First Aid Responder (QCTO)

Accidents and medical emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere – including at work. Quick and effective first aid can be the difference between life, permanent injury, or death. In serious emergencies like heavy bleeding or a heart attack, administering first aid while waiting for paramedics is crucial.

Under South African law (OHS Act 85 of 1993), any business with more than 10 employees must have a certified First Aider on site during working hours.

The Health and Welfare SETA is the primary SETA for all first aid unit standards, which are allocated to and fall under the control of Field 09 – Health Sciences and Social Services (HWSETA). There are 3 different first aid courses with different titles, NQF levels, credits, and outcomes, and Absolute Health Services is accredited to train all of the NQF level first aid courses.

For high-risk working environments such as the mining sector, industrial environments and factories, fire and police and roads departments, security, construction sites, any high-risk or dangerous environment, our First Aid levels 1-3 course would be ideal.

Should an employer require their staff to attend our accredited First Aid Fire and Evacuation Responder”, which includes the NQF 1 first aid course, basic firefighting and evacuation planning, the facilitation period of the course will be conducted over a period of 5 days spent at one of our training centres. The delegates will also have to complete an additional workplace (on the job) practical learning requirements assignment, which needs to be submitted back to Absolute Health Services within a specified period.

I loved training at the centre i will most definitely come back to do my L2 in 1st aid. The Facilitator Me Corné Du Plessis was a very good teacher and very funny he know how to lighten the mood and engage with the students. The staff was very friendly from beginning till the end. Incredibly amazing experience. I never knew i was this ill prepare in the event of a fire untill I attended the course. Our facilitator Teboho was great. I really enjoyed the Firefighting course. The slides and manual were simple, clear, and easy to understand. The training helped us learn deeply. Mental health support for first responders should be included in first aid training because exposure to trauma doesn’t end when the patient is handed over.
First responders regularly witness injury, death, and distress, which can have lasting psychological effects if left unaddressed. Teaching basic mental health awareness, coping strategies, and early warning signs helps responders process experiences in a healthy way, reduces burnout and PTSD, and ensures they remain effective, compassionate, and resilient in the long term.
